It’s the most beautiful time of the year: Award Season. While they are entertaining for us, they act as a moment of truth for celebrities as vicious critics look to point out the first flaws in  wardrobe, hair, and general physical appearances. Here at Architeqt Salon in Philadelphia, we’re really just not interested in the dirty details. We’re interested in applauding what we like, and analyzing hair trends being set on the red carpet. After all, they do indeed tend to set the tone for the year.

The Internet is still buzzing about the Golden Globes, and will continue to for a while. We wanted to stage our own recap of trends we noticed on the red carpet at the Golden Globes this year.

FIRST, we noticed that many of our beloved celebs were rocking severe parts, pulled back into a ponytail off the face achieving a “wet” look. While it isn’t overly exciting, it does portray natural beauty and minimalism, which allows the viewer to focus more on their outfit for the night. Who other than Kate Hudson could pull this off more gracefully? This middle part slicked into a pony tail behind the shoulders shifts focus then to her flawless bone structure and diamond earrings. In coordinance with her minimalist hairstyle, you may notice that Kate went light on the make up for the evening— a natural beauty at her best. Way to go, Kate!

Anna Kendrick also stunned us with a similar look. Her minimal makeup and hair highlighted the natural beauty of her features. Where it might look kind of boring in the front, she achieved a beautiful braid/knot in the back that made her entire look cohesive.

Similarly, another hairstyle that many celebrities relied on to complete their look for the night was a severe parting with hair down. Our favorite girls star, Jemima Kirk, chose a severe middle part with long ombre’d blonde, not far from her signature style. She enhanced the severity of her look with dark, smoky eye makeup and a dramatic cloaked crop garment.

We also loved Katie Holmes’ severe side part with a long, beautiful side ponytail! She pulled it off beautifully—Check her out below!

Last but not least, our Philadelphia stylists noticed another hair trend gracing the red carpet this year. An oldie, but a goodie, retro inspired finger waves. This pin-up classic style adds elegance and grace to any outfit. There’s no doubt this chic, flirty style will outlast the ages and appear on every red carpet for years to come. Here’s a compilation of the looks we loved:

Similarly, many celebrities achieved a more relaxed, casual look with beachy/tousled waves. This laid back look allows for lots of bounce movement, and volume. If you have great hair and want to show it off, this is the route to take. Here at Architeqt Salon in Philadelphia, we love this look, and would love to help you leave with it the next time you come to visit us! Just request it during your next appointment!
