Our New Stylist: Sequoya Yeagle | Architeqt Salon & Gallery

Here at Architeqt, we function like a family. We work long hours together, eat 3 meals a day together sometimes, and laugh at all the same stupid internet memes. What else could you really ask for from a team of colleagues?

We’ve recently welcomed a few members into our family at Architeqt Salon, and we wanted to give them a proper introduction to our existing clients, and our network in general.

SEQUOYA YEAGLE

We staged a small Q&A with Sequoya to trace her history in order to find out where her passion for hair and beauty originated.

When did you first decide that you wanted to be in the hair and beauty industry? I was very young, probably in high school. I actually started doing hair before any of my formal training by doing everyone’s hair in my family. After high school, I enrolled in Jean Madeline Aveda Institute.

Did you have a specific mentor, teacher, or role model who helped you actualize your potential during your education? There was a very fiery female teacher who I looked up to very much. I saw her as a confident, creative, and strong woman who was a portrait of hard work and actualized potential. She really pushed me, which helped me to realize I had taken the right career path.

What personal characteristics would you attribute to yourself? I’m definitely a very free-spirited person. Actually, I made a cross country move to Boulder, CO immediately after graduating from Jean Madeline. I am an avid snowboarded and I wanted to see what it was like to live in the mountains. Ultimately, though, I realized that if I wanted to make a career out of being a hairstylist I needed to move back to the East Coast. I also just missed the East Coast culture more.

What did you like about hairstyling on the west coast? I loved that a lot of my clients were interested in getting balayage, golden toned highlights, and generally had bohemian chic hair—which is what I would consider myself to have, I guess. All of my clients were super laid back and a lot of times trusted me with creative control.

What area in hairstyling would you say is your forte? That’s actually a really hard question. If you asked me this a few years ago I would have beyond a doubt answered color and balayage. Now that I am learning more dry cutting techniques, I have had a lot of fun doing dry cuts. Personally, I am just happy to be expanding my education and experience in unexplored areas, so dry cuts have been really enjoyable!

Do you have any advice that you regularly give to clients? I am a HUGE advocate for helping my clients embrace the natural texture of their hair. I love to give them natural, innovative styling options to see what kind of looks suit them best. This is probably because I have really, really curly hair and coming to terms with what I can do with it was one of the best realizations I’ve had thus far!

Is there anything else you’d like to mention that I didn’t ask? I also really enjoy doing weddings, and love the idea of helping someone put together the most special day of their life. Making a bride feel beautiful is a seriously rewarding feeling, something really cool to be apart of.

Oscars 2015

Oscars 2015

The 2015 Academy Awards were, as usual, filled with emotional moments, victories, and losses. The movie “Birdman” won best picture, bringing much joy to Michael Keaton as this role will undoubtedly help him take progressive steps in his future career. We’re happy that Keaton could take away some success despite the sad vine that went viral of him putting away his acceptance speech for Best Actor after losing.

Other happenings of the night included Patricia Arquette’s brave speech, which has generated much buzz regarding wage inequality for women. It has since inspired other women to speak out, such as A.J. Lee, a female WWE wrestler, who noted the discrepancies in pay between males and females in Hollywood.

The Academy Awards, despite being an arena for passion and talent, is never complete without a red carpet runway show. As usual, we look forward to noting all of our favorite beauty and fashion picks that walked the red carpet that night.

We tracked the trends down of the night as well, so that we could better present the hair forecast over the next year!

UNUSUAL COLOR

LADY GAGA

We’re so proud of Lady Gaga. In recent years, she has almost lost her balance as a pop star in the entertainment industry. This year, however, she is seemingly making a comeback as she earned a Grammy for her most recent album with Tony Bennett, as well as her 2015 Academy Awards performance of a Sound of Music medley. Her beauty and hair were also on point— we adored her ashy-lime color, paired with long, loose curls that gradated to a lighter shade on the ends.

DEEP SIDE PARTS

MARGOT ROBBIE

Out of all of the stars that graced the Red Carpet on Academy Awards Night, we really think that Margot Robbie won. Her deep side part paired with her absolutely gorgeous, dynamic lip color; her beautiful gown with a plunging neckline; and also the main event which was her necklace designed by Van Cleef and Arpels. To us, her hair stuck out because even though it was relatively casual, it helped to complete her classically beautiful ensemble.

JESSICA CHASTAIN

Jessica Chastain had a look similar to Margot Robbie- simple, natural, and classic. Her hair was styled in the same vein as Robbie’s— a deep side with down, relaxed hair—completed by a beautiful navy dyed Versace gown. In addition, her makeup was extremely minimal, which helped add to her classic look.

MESSY UPDOS

CATE BLANCHETT

When we saw Cate Blanchett on Academy night, we were initially floored by her custom silk velvet gown by Margiela, and also her statement necklace from Tiffany and Co. The two lit up her natural glow more than we even thought possible. After we got over the initial shock of her get-up, we were thoroughly impressed by the route she chose to go with her hair style. Blanchet simply and elegantly wore a messy updo paired with gorgeous highlights. Stunning and simple.

ROSAMUND PIKE

Rosamund Pike’s Givenchy gown was the perfect way for the “Gone Girl” actress to showcase her post-baby body transformation, which happened in a mere 5 weeks. In her 2015 Academy Awards look, she puts many of us to shame. Pike wore her hair back in a messy updo much like the style Cate Blanchett chose, and it couldn’t have worked better with her fire engine red color scheme. Awesome choices, Rosamund!

OLD HOLLYWOOD

John Legend and Chrissy Tiegen showed up to the Academy this year and made their presence known as a power couple. John Legend displayed his power through his moving performance of “Glory” that moved many people in the audience to tears, and Chrissy Tiegen with her beautiful “Old Hollywood” style hair. Her long, loose, golden S waves made us nostalgic for black and white noir films from the 20s.

What was your opinion of the 2015 Oscars? Did we miss any of your favorite looks, or any particular trends that carried through the night! Please give us any feedback you deem necessary!

Do you have a special night coming up soon? Achieve an “Academy” look with one of our talented stylists and makeup artists. We’re passionate about providing the foundation of a wonderful night—and we believe that starts with a wonderful you.

Grammy’s 2015 | Architeqt Salon Philadelphia Recap

The 2015 Grammy’s were a pretty typical to what we expect from every year’s ceremony. There was a portfolio of ridiculous moments including some acting out by Kanye West, a stunning performance by Beyonce that had everyone teary eyed, and Madonna doing Madonna. There was a stunning performance by Beck and Chris Martin, followed by Beck’s Grammy for Album of the Year. Sam Smith won 4 Grammy’s—talk about a great night.

As always, we like to give credit to the looks that inspired us on the red carpet. The Grammy’s are without a doubt one of the most interesting and fun awards ceremonies to reflect upon. Each look ends up being more outlandish than the previous, as pop stars tend to aspire to express their artistic identity as cultural icons.

KATY PERRY

gramys

It seems to us that Katy Perry took a cool tip off from our stylist Brittiany with these lavender locks. Either way, we love it. (We love it more on B!) She styled this bold color in a beautifully cut bob completed with beachy waves. We also love how she chose to let her black roots show, as they really helped to make the purple pop and ultimately accent her outfit. Go, girl.

KIM KARDASHIAN

kim k

As Kanye West’s wife, you definitely have to make some sort of statement on the red carpet, although being Kanye West’s wife is arguably a statement enough. This year, we have to hand it to Kim Kardashian. She wore her hair in sexy, textured waves and a deep side part. She looked absolutely stunning.

IGGY AZALEA

iggy-braids-1

Compare Iggy’s hair to whatever you want— we commend her bravery and innovation. She wore a dramatic crown braid confidently and proudly, thus totally pulling it off.   Her hair perfectly complimented her natural makeup and gorgeous blue Armani Prive gown. We guarantee we’ll be seeing lots and lots of crown braids in 2015..

JENNIFER HUDSON

jennifer-hudson-grammys-2015-grammy-awards1

Jennifer Hudson is a unquestionably a natural beauty, and she totally showcased that at the Grammy’s this year. Her edgy, jet black pixie cut placed all the focus on her face and vibrant magenta lipstick. Props to J-Hud for her adorable white form fitting Tom Ford dress, too. The simplicity was key for her on Grammy’s night, and she showed us all that less is more. For sure.

Stay Tuned for the Oscars! We’re excited to see what antics J-Law pulls this year!

Have a great week everyone,

Bridget

Our Top 3 Looks from the SAG Awards | Philadelphia Salon, Architeqt

The Screen Actors Guild Awards, also known as the SAG Awards, took place last week on January 25th. As per usual, the stars stunned us with their beauty and style to set the tone for some major inspiration in 2015. As a salon that is continuously keeping up with industry trends, we make it appoint to reflect upon the predominant ideas amongst our staff. Our next objective is to make our clientele aware of our ideas in order to provide direction towards forward hair innovations. Thus, we wanted to highlight our favorite looks and concepts that have debuted the red carpet during the SAG awards.

JENNIFER ANISTON

 jenniferaniston

As always, Jennifer Aniston humbled her audience with a natural style, encompassing a beauty unrivaled by other celebrities. She wore a straight middle part, parted with a perfect blonde balayage/hombre that recalled a spin on her iconic look during the “Friends” era. The neutral dye paired with dynamic highlights functioned to create a sun kissed “straight from the beach” look to make her outfit pop.

LUPITA NYONG’O

 lupita

Um—Can we just name Lupita as the Queen of the Red Carpet already? The crown braid she wore is enough to make us all jealous of her capability to pull off a wide range of looks. This style begins with corn rose braids along the hairline which is eventually blended into an afro puff surrounded by plaits.

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY

keira-knightley-sag-awards-purple-eye-makeup-w540

Last but never least, Kiera Knightley effortlessly dropped jaws on the red carpet with her half-do and loose beachy curls. This hairstyle functioned to compliment her neutral makeup tones and accent her ear cuff without making it appear to flashy.  Great Job, Kiera! We’re taking away some Valentine’s day inspiration from this look!’

Stay tuned for our favorite looks from the Grammy’s! Wonder what Gaga has in mind this year..

All Best,

Bridget from Architeqt Salon
