The Death of Contouring and 3 Other Spring Makeup Trends to Know

Happy spring, y’all! We couldn’t be more excited to jump into the new season with every hair and beauty product you could possibly need to transition into warmer weather. We caught up with resident makeup artist Viviana Morales to hear her top spring makeup tips: what’s trending in a big way and what’s definitely out. We think you’re gonna like this.

  • That’s right, people—contouring is out, and we can’t say we’re sad to see it go. You don’t have to deal with all that shading, blending and layers of heavy makeup anymore. Viviana tells us spring makeup is all about light coverage and rosy cheeks. “We want you to look like you, just a little blush on the cheek that’s similar to your natural flush.”
  • Say goodbye to vampy, dark lips. Springtime calls for fresh floral lipsticks that pop. A quick swipe of liquid matte lipstick will brighten up your face instantly. Right now, Viviana is loving bold-colored Velvetines from Limecrime (especially Polly, Cupid and Saint).
  •  You don’t have to perfect a wing liner every morning. Think all things light and fresh for spring makeup, especially on the eyes. Stick to baby pinks, oranges and soft yellows in matte shadows. Be sure to pop a touch of highlight on your tear ducts to look doe-eyed and wide awake. Viviana recommends the new spring eye shadow singles by Anastasia Beverly Hills, calling it “the best pigmented eye shadow out there.”
  • Brows and lashes still reign supreme—no surprise here. Try shading in a sculpted brow with eye shadows and an angle brush for a more natural, filling effect. (Did I mention Viviana does brow shaping?) Double up on mascara to define the eyes to complete your springtime look.

Remember: Keep the makeup minimal. This spring is all about natural, fresh, no-fuss makeup.
